ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A suspected car thief who led Albuquerque police on a high-speed chase is in custody.

Police spokesman Fred Duran says a SWAT team found 22-year-old Travis Lopez on Saturday hiding inside a dryer in an apartment complex laundry room.

Lopez is accused of fleeing from officers in a stolen BMW.

Police say Lopez then abandoned the car and got into a van driven by 34-year-old Jesus Oliva.

But he later ran into the complex, where police surrounded him.

Duran says Oliva initially lied and said Lopez threatened him at gunpoint to drive but police say both are tied to a burglary.

Both men are facing charges of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, residential burglary, conspiracy and tampering.

Duran says Lopez was on probation for similar charges.
