NEW YORK (AP) - Police are looking for a woman accused of approaching a 3-year-old girl on a Brooklyn street and starting to walk off with the girl before the child’s mother stopped her.

Officers were called around 10 a.m. Saturday to 80th Street in the Bensonhurst neighborhood. They were told the mother and her 3- and 6-year-old daughters were chatting with a neighbor and playing with the neighbor’s dog when a woman walked up.

According to police, the stranger tapped the 3-year-old on the shoulder and, without a word, gently guided her to start walking away. They didn’t get far before the child’s mother yelled for the woman to stop, and she did.

As the mother called 911, the woman waited a while before walking off.

She’s believed to be in her 30s.
