PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo is ordering all state and U.S. flags lowered to half-staff in Rhode Island in recognition of Memorial Day.

The order will be in effect from sunrise to noon on Monday. Flags should return to full-staff at noon.

Raimondo says Memorial Day is an important opportunity to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.

She’s also asking Rhode Islanders to lower their flags to half-staff during this time.

President Barack Obama has proclaimed Memorial Day a day of prayer and has asked that all governors of the United States and its territories direct the flag to be flown at half-staff.
