WASHINGTON (AP) - Police say a woman has been hospitalized after falling from a District of Columbia freeway in an apparent suicide attempt and that they’re looking for a man who hurt a witness trying to help.

Police say a witness reported seeing the woman fall Saturday morning from the Interstate 295 Anacostia Freeway overpass onto Pennsylvania Avenue SE. The witness told police that he and two others tried to help her but that a fourth man fought with them, telling them to get away and displaying a handgun.

A police report says a struggle ensued and a round discharged but no one was hit. Police say the man allegedly fled in his car but returned, striking and seriously injuring one of the men who came to help.
