RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 58-year-old inmate on North Carolina’s death row for killing a woman he lured through a Craigslist ad has died of natural causes.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Keith Acree said in a statement that Bernard Lamp died Monday at a Raleigh hospital. He didn’t provide any other details.

Lamp had been on death row since 2014. Prosecutors say he beat and strangled Bonnie Lou Irvine in March 2008. She met him through a Craigslist ad he placed looking for an escort two weeks earlier.

Authorities say Lamp was driving Irvine’s car when he was arrested. Her body was found buried in a black trash bag in the backyard of Lamp’s friend.
