BOONE, Iowa (AP) - Part of the facade at the Boone History Center in Boone has collapsed before much-needed repairs could begin.

No one was hurt when the bricks and other materials fell around 4 p.m. Sunday.

History Center executive director Mara MacKay says the Historical Society has been raising money to fix the 109-year-old building. Masonry experts told officials in January that the building needed structural repairs, and a mid-June date had been tentatively set for work to begin on the cornice.

Repair estimates before the collapse ranged up to $300,000.
