HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say they have charged a man with felony hit-and-run in the death of a 17-year-old who was riding a foot-powered scooter.

Troopers told media outlets that they arrested 30-year-old James Williams Jr. after connecting his pickup truck to the collision that killed Tomas Green Wednesday on U.S. Highway 17 near Hampstead.

Investigators say pieces of the grill from a similar truck were found at the spot Green was struck.

Troopers say Green was on a foot-powered Razor scooter near Topsail High School when he was struck and killed just before dawn.

It wasn’t known if Williams had a lawyer.
