PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) - Sheriff’s authorities say two people have died and two others have been injured in a head-on collision in Columbia County at the end of the Memorial Day weekend.

Officials say there were two people in one pickup truck and two in the other when the vehicles collided Monday about 7:20 p.m. on Highway 33 in the Town of Fort Winnebago.

The two occupants of one pickup were killed. Authorities identify the dead as the driver, 24-year-old Adam Chester of Pardeeville, and passenger 24-year-old Jacob Bachman of Baraboo. The two people in the other vehicle were taken to Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. There’s no word on their conditions. Investigators say speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
