MORRISVILLE, Vt. (AP) - A new section of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is open for year-round use.

Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/1TUzunf ) a 17-mile section of the trail that stretched between Cambridge Junction and Morrisville officially opened this spring for cyclists, pedestrians and other non-motorized users.

That section is the second part of the trail to open. The other piece is an 11-mile stretch between West Danville and St. Johnsbury.

The completed trail is expected to stretch 93 miles from Swanton to St. Johnsbury.

The Vermont Association of Snow Travelers is in charge of the trail. The project has state and federal funding, but VAST estimates it needs to raise about $10 million more to complete the trail.

VAST plans to open another 11 miles of trail from Sheldon to Swanton next year.
