HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say three people were burned during a “flash” as an engineer worked on an electrical panel at a Long Island hotel.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1OZJWFO ) Suffolk County police say chief engineer Vincent Papa suffered second- and third-degree burns to nearly two-thirds of his body late Monday afternoon during the flash at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge (HAH’-pahg).

Papa was taken to a Stony Brook hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The newspaper says Pablo Merino suffered head and hand burns. Jose Mortello suffered facial burns.

Police say there was no fire, only a flash.

Neither hotel officials nor the hotel’s parent company could immediately be reached for comment.
