AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - “God has called me to serve the Aiken County community in a new way.”

Staff Sgt. Jason Feemster retired from duty with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on May 19 to become the Minister of Children and Youth at the First Baptist Church in Clearwater.

“God has opened up this opportunity for me to go into ministry full time and I decided to answer God’s call and say goodbye to one part of my life to start something new,” Feemster said. “I’ve always worked a lot with children and families during my time in law enforcement. So, this won’t be too big of a change for me. God has just called me to continue on the path working with children.”

Feemster said being a minister is something that has always called to him. He said he once left the Sheriff’s Office to go to Bible college.

“Law enforcement has helped to mold me in so many different ways,” He said. “I feel like this is just another way God can use me as part of His plan and it’s just another way I can serve this community.”

Feemster had been working in law enforcement for nearly 20 years in both Aiken and Richmond counties. He said he is a little sad to go.

“I’ve got a lot of friends in law enforcement and in this community,” he said. “So, of course I’m going to miss everybody and the friendships I’ve made throughout all the years, but it’s not like I’m moving away. I’m still going to live where I’ve been living and my new job will be even closer to home now. So you really can’t ask for a better situation.”

Feemster said he is ready to begin this new chapter in life with the support of his family and with God’s love.

“God has just been so good to me,” Feemster said. “I look forward to what God has planned for me.”

First Baptist Church is located at 17 Belvedere Road in Clearwater.
