NORFORK, Ark. (AP) - Baxter County officials say a man missing since Friday has been found dead, suspended upside down in a cedar tree after apparently getting stuck.

The sheriff’s office identified the man as 27-year-old Weldon Speirs II of Horseshoe Bend. Officials said it appeared his foot had become lodged in a crevice in the tree and that the man was unable to free himself.

Speirs’ family reported him missing Friday after he had gone to an area between Norfork and Calico Rock to visit a friend. His body was found Sunday. It wasn’t known why he went into the woods or why he climbed the tree.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Little Rock for an autopsy. The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office said the death appears accidental.
