CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A U.S. senator from Wyoming will lead a Republican National Convention committee that composes the party’s official platform.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1sZiK60 ) that Sen. John Barrasso will steer the committee that lays out the GOP’s vision for the country, which is meant to unite Republican candidates. The 2012 platform was 62 pages long and touched on everything from the pledge of allegiance to entitlement programs.

There is some question about whether the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump will adhere to the platform. Trump is a former Democrat with some stances that are markedly different from those of the Republican Party, including his beliefs on abortion and trade.

Barrasso recently backed Trump, saying he would make a better president than Democrat Hillary Clinton.
