FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Fort Detrick will soon mark the beginning and end of each day on post with cannon fire.

The Frederick News-Post reports (https://bit.ly/1O286of) that reveille, the traditional military wake-up call, is usually announced at Fort Detrick at 6:30 a.m. The cannon salute will be added to reveille and retreat starting June 14, the Army’s 241st birthday.

“Retreat” occurs at 5 p.m., and another bugle call, “To the Color” is played.

Civilians and service members are expected to observe reveille and retreat on post. Service members will salute.

Civilians should face the flag, or the direction of the bugle call, and place their right hand over their heart.

Those who are driving should stop and exit their vehicles during the calls.
