ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A moderate earthquake Tuesday afternoon knocked light objects off shelves in two rural Alaska communities.

The Alaska Earthquake Center says the quake was felt strongly in Perryville and Chignik in the region of the Alaska Peninsula.

The center recorded the shaking at 12:51 p.m.

The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 and was at a depth of 23 miles.

The epicenter was 81 miles east of Sand Point.
