PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say several dogs attacked a 4-year-old girl in Philadelphia and that police shot one of them to death when at least one of them charged at responding officers.

Officers responded to the scene late Monday afternoon for a report of someone screaming and police say they shot multiple times at the dogs, killing one. Three other dogs have been secured.

Police say the young girl was treated at the scene after being bitten on the face. She is in stable condition.

Authorities say the dog, believed to be a pit bull, wasn’t leashed.

Investigators haven’t said who owns the dogs.
