PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - One of the participants in last year’s Tall Ships Portland festival is returning.

The Spanish ship El Galeon is scheduled to tie up on the Portland waterfront Tuesday evening.

El Galeon, which will stay through June 13, is a replica of a Colonial-era Spanish galleon that sailed for the Spanish crown from the 16th through 18th centuries in search of trade routes.

The ship, based in Sevilla, Spain, boasts some modern materials, like a fiberglass hull, to reduce maintenance. It was launched in 2009.
