WINSLOW, Ariz. (AP) - A teenager has died trying to swim across a popular creek in Winslow.

The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office says 17-year-old Ryan Felix, of Show Low, drowned Monday afternoon at Clear Creek Reservoir.

Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jim Molesa says Felix and two of his friends got in the water to jump from cliffs on the north bank.

He says Felix swam about 45 yards before he began struggling to stay afloat in the chilly water. Molesa says Felix’s friends tried unsuccessfully to save him.

Divers from the Winslow Police Department and the sheriff’s office recovered Felix’s body around 3:10 p.m.
