CINCINNATI (AP) - Authorities say an apartment fire that killed two adults and a child in suburban Cincinnati likely started in the kitchen.

Fire Chief Robert Leininger says arson has been ruled out in the fire Wednesday at an apartment building in Springfield Township. But investigators are still trying to determine the cause.

Firefighters were called around 3 a.m. Wednesday and found smoke coming from the building.

Authorities say a woman and her young son pulled from the apartment were taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Firefighters later found a man’s body in the kitchen.

Leininger says the names are being withheld until relatives can be notified.

He says the relatively small fire apparently ignited some combustibles in the kitchen and smoldered long enough to generate toxic smoke throughout the apartment.
