ATLANTA (AP) - Former Georgia State assistant Darryl LaBarrie is returning to Georgia Tech, his alma mater, as an assistant under new coach Josh Pastner.

LaBarrie is Pastner’s first hire at Georgia Tech.

LaBarrie was a 2001 graduate from Georgia Tech, where he played for Bobby Cremins and Paul Hewitt. He also served for two years as an assistant under Hewitt.

He spent the last five seasons as an assistant at Georgia State. He earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Georgia State in 2005.

LaBarrie also is a former assistant at East Carolina.

Georgia Tech hired Pastner, the former Memphis coach, on April 8 to replace Brian Gregory, who was fired.
