Jack McCain, a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and son of Republican Sen. John McCain, taunted the “ignorant racists” on Twitter who are criticizing an Old Navy ad for featuring an interracial family.

Lt. McCain, who is married to Air Force Capt. Renee Swift McCain, a black woman, joined couples from across the country who posted pictures of their mixed-race families with the #LoveWins hashtag.

“To the people upset about the @OldNavy ‘Scandal’ of an a picture of a mixed race marriage, eat it,” Lt. McCain wrote Monday with a picture of him and his wife.

“I hope this one burns too, you ignorant racists. Here is us on our wedding day,” he wrote in another photo tweet.

His wife also joined in, posting a picture of the couple with the caption, “I was just in @OldNavy this weekend! Bought something for me and my husband. #LoveWins”

Old Navy has faced a torrent of racist backlash over an ad the company posted last week featuring a white father, a black mother and their mixed son.

“The mere fact that this is a conversation in the year 2016 is disheartening enough, and why this type of response — like the one aimed at Old Navy — merits conversation,” Lt. McCain told Navy Times Tuesday.

“I did not intend for this level of exposure. Mostly, I wanted to take a principled stand on an issue that shouldn’t be one in the first place,” he said. “If there is one result I could hope for out of all of this furor, it would be helping to ensure that intolerance has no place in service, or in our national discourse.”
