KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - A jury in Key West has acquitted a Miami-Dade County commissioner of a drunken driving charge.

South Florida media outlets report jurors deliberated only about 20 minutes Wednesday before finding Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz not guilty following a two-day trial.

Diaz was charged in September after police pulled over the motorcycle he was riding for going 74 mph in a 30-mph zone. Diaz was in the Keys for the annual Poker Run motorcycle charity events. Police said Diaz refused to take a breath test, but officers said he failed a roadside sobriety test.

Diaz told reporters he was not drunk that day and said he felt vindicated by the jury verdict.

Diaz has represented parts of western Miami-Dade County since 2002.
