Powerball officials drew numbers Wednesday for the lottery game’s biggest jackpot since the world-record $1.6 billion drawing in January.
The winning numbers were 47-69-30-66-57, with the red Powerball being 3.
The multi-state lottery is now well and truly in the big-jackpot territory that can create long ticket lines and even bigger leaps in prize-size. With nine weeks gone since the last big winner, the top prize Wednesday was $361.5 million.
If taken as a lump sum, as most recent big lottery winners have chosen to do, Wednesday’s jackpot in the twice-weekly game would be worth $226 million, with federal taxes quickly taking almost 40 percent of that amount and state taxes a possibility on top of that.
The $2 Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, along with the District of Columbia and some U.S. territories.
