NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a Newark police detective forced a woman to perform a sexual act on him.

Kenneth Gaulette faces charges of sexual assault and criminal coercion. The 33-year-old Manalapan resident turned himself in on Wednesday and was later released after posting $75,000 bail.

Prosecutors say the alleged incident occurred last November on “Newark police property.” But further details about the location were not disclosed.

Prosecutors say Gaulette suggested that the 40-year-old woman would receive favorable treatment from law enforcement if she performed the sex act.

A telephone number for Gaulette could not be located Wednesday night. His lawyer’s name was not immediately available.

Gaulette has served on the Newark force for nine years. Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said Gaulette would be suspended without pay due to his arrest.
