PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard has declared that May is once again “Beef Month” in South Dakota.

The state Department of Agriculture said on Thursday that South Dakota has nearly five cattle for every one person. Daugaard says more than 15,000 cattle producers call South Dakota home.

Interim Secretary of Agriculture Dustin Oedekoven says recognizing Beef Month is a good way to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the state’s beef producers.
