EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) - A former Rhode Island lawmaker has been arrested on charges he kicked and shattered a door at a North Kingstown bank.

Police say former House Minority Leader Robert Watson was arrested without incident at his East Greenwich home on Wednesday. He was charged with disorderly conduct, vandalism and driving with a suspended license.

Officers responded to the bank on Monday for report of vandalism. The manager told police that Watson became angry when the manager tried to assist him, screamed profanities and then kicked the glass door before driving away. Police say the 55-year-old was driving on a suspended license.

Watson did not immediately return a phone call to his home Thursday seeking comment.

Watson was charged in 2011 with marijuana possession. That case was later dropped.
