SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa woman is facing a theft charge after authorities say she stole over $38,000 from a Sioux City law firm.

Court records say 43-year-old Kristin Hermelbracht, of Hinton, was arrested Wednesday after being accused of writing herself checks while working at the Hellige, Frey and Roe law firm.

Authorities say that between July 2013 and November 2015, she stole the money by forging a partner’s signature on the checks.

She is also accused of using the firm’s money to buy prepaid debit cards.

Hermelbracht faces a first-degree theft charge. She was freed after posting a bond.

An online phone listing for Hermelbracht could not be located. Her attorney declined to comment, other than to say she will be arraigned May 12.
