LORMAN, Miss. (AP) - The leader of a group that helps fund and improve historically black colleges will headline Alcorn State University’s Saturday commencement.

Johnny C. Taylor, the president of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, will speak to almost 600 graduates in separate morning and afternoon sessions at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex on the Lorman campus.

A lawyer, author and public speaker, Taylor became the fund’s leader in 2010. The fund has given nearly $800,000 in scholarships and grants to the university and its students and has recently started a program for current Alcorn science, technology, engineering and math students to mentor middle school children in Vicksburg.

Taylor was a senior executive at media and Internet company IAC/InterActive Corp. before joining the Marshall Fund.
