NORTH MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (AP) - A New York City police detective who died in the line of duty will be honored during a ceremony on Long Island.

Detective Brian Moore was shot in Queens on May 2, 2015, and died two days later.

He was remembered in New York City on Wednesday - the anniversary of his death.

On May 21, a statue will be unveiled and a school athletic center will be dedicated in North Massapequa (mas-uh-PEEK’-wuh).

Moore was a graduate of Plainedge High School, which is in North Massapequa.

He also was the son of an NYPD officer.

Moore and his partner were in street clothes in an unmarked car and were stopping a man suspected of carrying a handgun. Moore was shot in the head.
