BALTIMORE (AP) - Authorities have identified a Georgia man who they say shot and killed himself in Baltimore after fleeing robbery and kidnapping charges in North Carolina.

Maryland State Police Cpl. DaVaughn Parker identified the man Thursday as 54-year-old Desmond Taylor of Atlanta.

Parker says officers spotted a vehicle Taylor was accused of stealing outside a home Tuesday. After they surrounded the home and announced their presence, they saw him come out a back door and shoot himself.

Parker says Taylor, who previously lived in Baltimore, was wanted in Greensboro, North Carolina, on charges of car theft, robbery with a deadly weapon, home invasion, and kidnapping. He says Taylor also was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer after ramming police cars during a pursuit last month.
