PHOENIX (AP) - A multi-vehicle crash in west Phoenix has killed one person, injured others and will close a major intersection for several hours at the start of the Thursday morning commute.

Police say the intersection of North 59th Avenue and West Thomas Road is closed in all four directions and that drivers should avoid the area.

Cause of the accident is under investigation but police say there was a collision involving three vehicles and that several other vehicles also were involved in the accident.

Initial reports indicate that four people were injured in addition to one person who died in a vehicle that caught fire.
