LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island trooper suffered minor injuries when his parked cruiser was struck by a car in Lincoln.

State police say the cruiser was parked in the breakdown lane and right shoulder of Route 99 at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday when the accident occurred.

Police say a motorist tried to pass another car on the right when she saw the cruiser and hit her brakes. Police say she lost control of her car, striking the passenger side of the vehicle she was attempting to pass.

Police say that second vehicle then left the roadway and struck the rear of the cruiser.

The trooper, whose name has not been released was treated and released from Rhode Island Hospital. The two other drivers refused treatment.

No charges were immediately filed.
