ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A 34-year-old Rochester man charged with fatally beating his girlfriend last year out of jealousy that she may have been seeing someone else has been convicted of manslaughter.

Monroe County prosecutors say Artis Miller bludgeoned 29-year-old Twynette Ruffin to death in early February 2015 inside his Rochester apartment.

A jury convicted him on Wednesday following a 10-day trial. The jury chose not to convict him of second-degree murder.

Minutes before Ruffin was dropped off at his apartment, prosecutors say Miller sent her text messages calling her some “very degrading and violent names.”

Ruffin suffered four broken ribs and lacerations to her diaphragm, intestines and liver. She died of massive internal bleeding on Miller’s living room floor.

Miller faces a 25-year prison term at his August sentencing.
