SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy working as a school resource officer has been fired for having a sexual relationship with a student.

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich says Deputy Mark “Cole” Speer was fired Thursday after an internal investigation.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://goo.gl/pZlIJu ) Speer began the relationship with a high school senior which continued until February. Knezovich says the girl was over 18 and Speer is a married father in his 40s. The age of consent in Washington is 16.

Neither Speer nor the teen cooperated in the sheriff’s office investigation. Knezovich says text messages show the relationship was sexual and that Speer remains “untruthful” about the situation.

No criminal charges have been filed.

Speer was hired by the sheriff’s office in 2006 and had been working as a high school resource officer since 2011.
