OAK CREEK CANYON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in northern Arizona are searching for an Arizona State University professor reported missing from a campground.

Coconino County Sheriff’s officials say 911 dispatchers received a call around 9 a.m. Friday from the host for the Pine Flat Campground in Oak Creek Canyon.

The host says a woman who was camping by herself failed to check out of her camping space as scheduled.

The man identified the missing camper as 59-year-old Debra Ann Schwartz.

The Tempe woman teaches English at ASU.

Sheriff’s deputies have found her vehicle, assembled tent and other camping equipment so far.

They say it appears Schwartz left her campground for an unknown destination and failed to return.

Several crews are doing an extensive ground search with an Arizona Department of Public helicopter searching by air.
