SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) - A firefighter was injured and 15 homes had to be temporarily evacuated after a blaze in Alameda County.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1VMBWzx ) that firefighters responded on Thursday to a call of a house fire in an unincorporated area of the county. The homeowners weren’t present at the time of the fire.

Alameda County Battalion Chief Tom Pappas says a part of the building fell on a firefighters head while he was trying to battle the flames, knocking him to the ground. Pappas says the firefighter did not lose consciousness and continued fighting the fire. He was later taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Officials say the home where the fire started has been condemned.
