BOSTON (AP) - Boston College will retire former baseball captain Pete Frates’ uniform number Saturday at its fifth annual ALS Awareness Game.

Frates’ No. 3 jersey will join the No. 13 worn by Eddie Pellagrini, a major league infielder who was the winningest coach in BC history.

Since being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease at the age of 27, Frates has helped to raise hundreds of millions of dollars by popularizing the ice bucket challenge. Frates played outfield for BC from 2004-07 and was a captain his senior year.

Because of forecast rain Sunday, Boston College and Wake Forest will play a doubleheader on Saturday. The retirement ceremony will take place between the games.
