NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - A man who killed his wife, wounded their two children and shot himself dead outside a North Las Vegas preschool Thursday had been banned by a judge from approaching his family, authorities said.

Christina Pearl Franklin, 27, had an active temporary protective order against Travis Lee Spitler, 40, that also banned him from the Kids Campus Learning Center. North Las Vegas police said Friday.

Franklin was dropping off the children at the preschool a little after 6 a.m. when Spitler appeared, got out of his car and started shooting, police said. Franklin and Spitler’s 3-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son also suffered gunshot wounds at the scene.

The children were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. No other children were on site, and no one else was hurt.

The Clark County coroner’s office said the mother died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled her death a homicide. The coroner’s office ruled the father’s death a suicide by a gunshot wound to the head.

One weapon was recovered.

Police say the couple had a history of domestic violence before Franklin obtained the court order.
