MILWAUKEE (AP) - A fire official says a 1 ½-year-old boy was killed in a house fire in Milwaukee.

The Journal Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1TLYZa2 ) reports Deputy Fire Chief Terry Lintonen says the fire was reported around 6 p.m. Thursday at a two-story duplex. He says that on the second floor, firefighters encountered flames and heavy smoke, and they were told a child in the home was unaccounted for.

Lintonen says the dwelling was searched and a 1 ½-year-old boy was found dead by firefighters. He says there were no other injuries reported, and the home didn’t have working smoke detectors.

According to Lintonen, the fire is under investigation.
