RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - An Iredell County man has died at Central Prison in Raleigh.

Public Safety Department spokesman Keith Acree said 39-year-old Steven Haas was found unresponsive in his cell shortly before midnight Thursday. He was declared dead at the prison’s medical center a short time later.

Haas was serving time for violating parole on sex charges.

The State Capitol Police Department is investigating the death.

Haas had recently completed a sentence of seven to 10 years for second-degree sexual assault and indecent liberties with a child. He had been released April 8, but returned to prison May 2 for violating the terms of his post-release supervision.
