BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - Former longtime Beatrice Daily Sun sports editor and reporter Jane White has died.

The Beatrice newspaper (https://bit.ly/1YdCHiM ) reports White died Thursday from complications following surgery in Lincoln.

White was a 1983 graduate of Beatrice High who was well-known throughout southeast Nebraska for her coverage of high school and University of Nebraska-Lincoln sports. She won several awards from the Nebraska Press Association for her photography and writing.

After leaving the Daily Sun, White continued to cover local sports on a website she started.

White was among the organizers for the MUDECAS basketball and volleyball tournaments hosted by Beatrice for area schools. The MUDECAS boys basketball tournament is the longest running tournament in the state.
