ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The fishing season for walleye, northern pike, pickerel and tiger muskellunge opens this weekend in New York state.

Saturday also marks the opening of the special trophy black bass season on Lake Erie, where an angler can keep one 20-inch or longer fish per day thru June 17.

The black bass catch-and-release season is also underway in many waters around the state, but the regular bass season doesn’t open until June 18.

Anglers should pick up a copy of the 2016-17 Freshwater Fishing Regulations guide to ensure that they are aware of the current regulations for the water they are fishing.
