RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) - The father of a state prison guard killed by inmates during an escape attempt in 1997 says he’s happy to hear that one of the inmates has died in prison.

Charles Martinez tells the Rawlins Daily Times that it made his day when he was informed about the death on April 29 of 45-year-old Bryan Collins at a Virginia prison.

Collins was among three inmates convicted of killing 26-year-old Wayne Martinez, a guard at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in June 1997. Collins was serving a life sentence.

Charles Martinez says he remains bitter about his son’s death, saying he misses his son and thinks about his death day and night.

Collins’ death is under investigation. The Wyoming Department of Corrections says foul play isn’t initially suspected.
