VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - ROTC cadets in Virginia are helping preserve the stories of the region’s veterans.

The “Vets and Cadets” program pairs up teen cadets for interviews veterans with local veterans. The cadets will record the interviews and they will be uploaded to the Library of Congress so they can be enjoyed by future generations.

Organizers say they hope connecting the teens with veterans will help them understand what it’s like to serve in combat.

The program will officially launch Saturday with an event at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. Cadets from the Cox/First Colonial High School JROTC Area 5 will be paired with veterans from the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community for interviews and other activities.
