VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A crewman was medevaced from a cargo ship 110 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach Saturday morning.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (https://bit.ly/1XepW9l) that the Coast Guard, in a news release, says the 68-year-old Croatian man was aboard the 590-foot Atlantic Tramp when he began experiencing symptoms Friday night that included forgetfulness, slurred speech and drooping to the right side of his face. He then became unconscious.

The release says a medevac was planned for Saturday morning because of the length of time from when the symptoms began and because the ship was 230 miles off shore.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched from Elizabeth City at 6:45 a.m. to meet the vessel. The crewman was then taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he is in stable condition.
