CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - The attorney for an 18-year-old charged with killing a Conway couple is asking a judge to postpone his next court hearing and delay the start of trial.

Attorney Patrick Benca filed a motion Friday asking that Wednesday’ hearing for Hunter Drexler of Clinton be delayed until June 30 and that the scheduled June 24 start of trial be postponed. The motion cites evidence issues and says prosecutors are aware.

Benca could not be reached for comment. Prosecutor Cody Hiland told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1s2Xs72 ) that Benca is referring to new evidence.

Drexler and 15-year-old Justin Staton of Conway are charged as adults with capital murder in the July 2015 shooting deaths of Robert and Patricia Cogdell - who were Staton’s legal guardians. Two 17-year-olds are charged with first-degree murder in the case.
