HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a High Point police officer fired his gun at a car after it hit him in the leg.

Investigators told media outlets that the officer suffered minor injuries and the suspects were not hit by gunfire in the shooting around 11 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say undercover officers were trying to buy drugs from the men when they became suspicious and tried to drive away.

Investigators say the suspects hit an unoccupied car, then hit the officer in the leg. The officer fired at the car, fearing for his life.

Police said the driver, 33-year-old Antwan Outlaw, and the passenger, 31-year-old Davon Marsh were both charged with trafficking heroin. Outlaw is also charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

It wasn’t known if either man has an attorney.
