MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - The former owner of a Little Caesars pizza shop in Ashland has been acquitted on arson charges.

The Mail Tribune reports (https://is.gd/2VDX6X ) that a jury acquitted Mark Alan McAlister of Medford on all counts in an arson conspiracy trial.

McAlister faced three counts of conspiracy to commit arson after investigators said he asked a handyman to break a natural gas line, leave a candle burning and try to burn or blow up the pizza shop in 2014.

Prosecutors showed the jury a badly mangled natural gas line as evidence but they struggled to prove McAlister would gain financially from destroying his business.

McAlister testified his business insurance would have compensated him only for rebuilding and wouldn’t let him cash out on the franchise.

After days of testimony, the jury returned not-guilty verdicts.
