LE MANS, France (AP) - Jorge Lorenzo won pole position for the first time at the French Moto Grand Prix ahead of series leader Marc Marquez on Saturday.

Lorenzo set a new best lap record on the Le Mans circuit in 1 minute, 31.975 seconds. Marquez was 0.441 seconds slower on his Honda, followed by Andrea Iannone, who clocked 1:32.469. Iannone fell off his Ducati on his out lap for the final run but escaped uninjured.

In dry conditions, Dani Pedrosa also crashed and will start Sunday’s race in 11th position.

Lorenzo’s teammate, Valentino Rossi, was 0.854 adrift in seventh place.
