BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police say a 59-year-old man has been seriously injured when he was stabbed during a robbery in front of his home in Birmingham.

Al.com (https://bit.ly/23xDaO2 ) reports that the stabbing happened about 2:15 p.m. Friday when police say the victim was doing yard work. Police say three young men walked up to the man and demanded money.

Police say the victim threw up his hands and said he didn’t have anything. The victim was stabbed three times in the abdomen with a knife that had about a three-inch blade.

Police say the suspects fled the scene and left the knife behind.

Officers on the scene said the victim’s injuries are life-threatening. He was taken to UAB Hospital.
